Story Vessel - COGG Connecting Identities project Mouth to Mountain
Our area to represent was the Cheetham Ward residents. This ward contains Leopold, Wallington, Drysdale, Curlewis, Marcus Hill and Clifton Springs.
The elements represented in our story vessel are:
A strong sense of Community – stylized images in laser cut steel depicting: Drysdale Uniting Church, Wallington Primary School, the storm damaged stone cross from St. Marks in Leopold, the Potato Shed community centre and a couple of homes.
Rail Trail – a circular train track at the base of the piece
Local Flora She-Oak Tree, laser cut from stainless steel and growing through a water hole in the plough disc.
Local Fauna Blue Wren, created from found metal objects including horse shoe nails and a ball bearing
Water Holes – a local indigenous, Wathaurong symbol (to acknowledge the original custodians of this area) has been cut into the plough disc
Fertile Soil – Grape vine leaves become a nest for the water bottle to sit in. The main body of the piece is a plough disc, representing the farming history
Horse businesses – these latest developments are represented by the horse-shoe.
